The Federal Cabinet on recommendations of the Rightsizing Committee has decided to eliminate approximately 150,000 vacant government positions and further accorded approval to outsourcing non-core services such as cleaning and maintenance, leading to a phased reduction of posts in grades 1 to 16.
Sources told ProPakistani these decisions were made based on a summary from the Finance Division.
The Cabinet also imposed a total ban on the recruitment of contingency staff and authorized the Ministry of Finance to monitor the cash balances of other federal ministries.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the merger of the Ministry of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan with the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and the complete shutdown of 28 institutions across five ministries.
