Complete Blackout: All Bahria Town Lahore Projects Lose Electricity Supply
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) disconnected electricity to four Bahria Town Lahore projects on Friday after the real estate developer failed to pay over Rs. 682 million in outstanding bills. Muhammad Ramzan Butt, LESCO’s CEO, confirmed that Bahria Town, Bahria Orchard, Bahria Education City, and a project by Kingrete Associates had defaulted on payments. “We will not restore power until the bills are cleared,” he said, noting that multiple extensions for payment had expired. According to LESCO records, Bahria Town owes more than Rs. 530 million, Bahria Orchard Rs. 137 million, Bahria Education City Rs. 5.465 million, and the Kingrete project Rs. 2.7 million. The utility had set the final payment deadline for November 27, but the developer approached the court instead. The power cut has sparked outrage among residents, who plan to demonstrate outside the Bahria Town offices. Many reported spoiled food and disrupted daily routines due to the outage. “It feels like we are living in a jungle — no electricity and no warm water,” said resident Fayyaz Ahmad. This is not the first instance of power issues in Bahria Town. In 2024, LESCO disconnected electricity over Rs. 762 million in unpaid bills. The developer has also faced complaints regarding overbilling and solar power deductions in its Islamabad projects. LESCO stated that power would be restored immediately once the outstanding dues are cleared.
