The Excise and Taxation Department is set to launch a crackdown against owners of luxury houses in Rawalpindi Division who are habitual tax defaulters.
According to a report, the action will be initiated against tax defaulter individuals who own two kanal or larger luxury houses in Rawalpindi Division, including cantonment areas.
According to the report, the said tax was levied under the Punjab Finance Act, 2014. The one-time tax is on a minimum of two kanals and 6,000 square feet of construction. The tax is only applicable to houses constructed after 2000.
Quoting the Director of Excise and Taxation, Rawalpindi Division, the report said that 95 percent of owners of luxury houses in Rawalpindi Division have paid the tax, but the remaining 5 percent are yet to pay the tax. He warned that strict action would be taken against the owners who have not paid the tax.
The report noted that a list of defaulters has been prepared and action will be initiated soon.
