Electricity Consumers Likely to Get Rs. 1.50 Per Unit Relief for 3 Months

The consumers of XWAPDA power distribution companies (DISCOs) are likely to get relief of Rs. 1.50 per unit in power tariff for next three months as National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday concluded a public hearing into the DISCOs petition under quarterly adjustment mechanism for third quarter of the current fiscal year 2024-25. The public hearing was presided over by the Chairman of NEPRA Waseem Mukhtar while officials from DISCOs, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G), members of the business community, representatives from the Ministry of Energy, journalists, and general public actively were also present in the hearing. The DISCOs submitted a request for consumer relief of Rs. 51.493 billion for the said period. The Authority carefully listened to the views of all relevant stakeholders. The Authority also sought clarification from the concerned DISCOs regarding the absence of senior officials from Hyderabad, Multan and Quetta Electric Supplies companies (HESCO, MEPCO, QESCO) in the hearing. The adjustment would be applicable to all DISCOs consumers including KE, except lifeline users, protected consumers, prepaid users, and electric vehicle charging stations. The Authority would issue a detailed decision after reviewing the data.
