Ex-federal minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz on Monday shared a plan to reduce electricity prices by Rs. 14 per unit.
He recommended converting contracts of 40 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to a Take-and-Pay model, where payments are made based on the electricity actually produced.
This shift could save Pakistani consumers Rs. 1 trillion or Rs. 9.70 per unit. Additionally, due to this reduction other charges like Distribution and Taxes will also be reduced by Rs. 4 per unit, the total savings could amount to Rs. 14 per unit for all consumers.
“The Task Force has conducted an extensive investigation and analysis, and negotiations with IPPs are currently in progress,” the former minister further explained.
Domestic consumers, commercial industries, and farmers across Pakistan are eagerly awaiting this relief in tariffs, he added.
