FBR Has Failed to Recover Rs. 85.6 Billion Pending Tax in Past Two Years: Report
The Federal Board of Revenue has failed to collect taxes of Rs. 85.63 billion in the past two years. The Auditor General of Pakistan expressed concern over FBR’s performance in his report. Tax charges for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23 could not be recovered. Over 3,000 cases of tax not collected in 14 FBR field offices in two years. These irregularities were identified between February 2023 and November 2023, the report said. Out of Rs. 85.63 billion, FBR has received only Rs. 280 million. Cases worth more than Rs. 5 billion are pending in courts. Such irregularities were also discovered in the year 2018-19 and 2019-20, the audit report said. The Auditor General of Pakistan has directed to speed up the recovery of tax money.
