FBR Registers Rs. 1.25 Billion Sales Tax Fraud Case Against Designer Nomi Ansari
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has lodged a major sales tax fraud case against internationally known fashion designer Nomi Ansari.
The tax machinery is accusing the designer of allegedly evading taxes worth Rs. 1.25 billion.
ProPakistani reached out to Noman Ansari for a comment on the story. We will share his response if received.
The first information report (FBR) was filed by the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) Karachi following preliminary investigations that allegedly uncovered evidence of tax evasion. FBR enforcement teams raided Ansari’s factory and retail outlets located in Karachi. Financial records were seized during the operation.
FBR has also issued a formal tax demand order against Ansari.
Noman Ansari is currently abroad, and authorities may arrest him upon his return to Pakistan, after which he is expected to be presented before the Customs and Taxation Court.
This is not the first enforcement action taken against the designer. In February, the CTO Karachi sealed several of Ansari’s business outlets over non-compliance with sales tax regulations and failure to integrate with the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
