FIA Summons FBR Member Operations in Corruption and Illegal Tax Refund Inquiry

The Federal Investigation Agency has summoned member operations of the Federal Board of Revenue, Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, to an ongoing inquiry related to corruption, kickbacks, bribery, and illegal approval of tax refunds to large taxpayer companies. Sources told ProPakistani that FIA directed the focal person FBR to ensure the attendance of summoned officials, including Mir Badshah Khan Wazir on July 26, 2024. It is pertinent to note that Mir Badshah Khan Wazir is a close aide of Chairman FBR. According to an FIA notice, it appears that you(Mir Badshah Khan Wazir) are acquainted with the circumstances of inquiry on the allegations of corruption, kickbacks, bribery, corrupt practices, illegal approval of tax refunds to large taxpayer companies by the officers/officials of LTO Lahore. You are hereby called upon to appear (in person) and/or explain your position in the matter and/or provide documents of corruption, kickbacks, bribery, corrupt practices, and illegal approval of tax refunds to large taxpayer companies by the officers/officials of LTO Lahore in your possession related to the inquiry. In addition, Record of Large Tax Payer Companies in your zone of LTO Lahore in which refunds have been issued in the last five years. You are further required to bring your original CNIC and any/all documentary evidence in support of your claim. According to a senior FBR official,  Member Operations IR Mir Badshah Khan Wazir had submitted the reply to FIA. It merits mention here that FBR had suspended four senior IR officials on the charges of speed money into tax refund case of millions of rupees. The FIA has also started investigating this matter. Sources said that FBR has completed its internal inquiry and the inquiry officer submitted the report to Chairman FBR.
