FPSC to Re-evaluate Bureaucrat Appointments After Govt Orders Fresh Probe
In a significant development, the federal government has decided to send the cases of all civil officers regularized by the Cabinet Committee to the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) for fresh scrutiny. This decision follows legal advice from the Ministry of Law, raising concerns about the future of these officers. The regularization of officers by the Cabinet Committee has been deemed a violation of the Civil Servants Act and the FPSC law.The Supreme Court had previously declared the Cabinet Committee for Regularization illegal. The committee’s authority was limited to regularizing employees in grades 1 to 15, and it exceeded its powers. The FPSC will now conduct fresh tests and interviews for all affected officers. The commission will reassess the fitness and eligibility of these candidates. The Establishment Division has issued directives to all secretaries instructing them to forward the cases of regularized officers to the FPSC. This decision will affect dozens of officers in various ministries and divisions. Affected departments include the Board of Immigration, FIA, State Office, Federal Education, Federal Seed Certification, Passport Office, and others. This move by the government is expected to create uncertainty among the affected officers, as their regularization will now depend on the outcome of the FPSC’s review.
