The federal government has announced a slight cut in the prices of petroleum products.
Under the revision, the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel have been cut by Rs. 2 per liter. The new price of petrol will be Rs. 252.63 while the new price of high-speed diesel will be Rs. 256.64. The new prices will take effect from May 1, 2025.
At the last fortnightly review of petroleum prices, the federal government kept the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel unchanged, despite a huge drop in international oil prices.
The decision came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that instead of passing on the reduction in petroleum product prices in the international market to consumers, the saved amount will be used for the dualization of the vital N-25 highway (Chaman-Quetta-Kalat-Khuzdar-Karachi Road) in Balochistan.
Additionally, the same savings will be used to complete Phase 2 of the Kachhi Canal, which will irrigate hundreds of acres of land in Balochistan and bring prosperity to the province and the country at large.
