The federal government has spent over Rs. 16 billion on advertisements in the last five years, according to official documents seen by ProPakistani.
In the last five years, a total of Rs. 9.486 billion was released to print media for advertisements.
While some of this cash was used for disseminating sensitive information pertaining to policy reforms and development schemes, local authorities have used a big chunk of these funds to improve their popularity on digital media.
The document reveals that Rs. 6.58 billion was disbursed for state advertisements in electronic media during the period in review.
In total, Rs. 16.06 billion was disbursed to both print and electronic media for advertisements over the past five years.
State expenditure on advertisements gains traction during peak times such as budget, general elections, military exercises, high-profile foreign visits, and others.
