Govt Speeds Up Rightsizing of Useless Ministries to Meet IMF Demand

The government has decided to expedite the process of rightsizing to meet the conditions and targets set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Preparations have been finalized to achieve all rightsizing tasks by June 30, with a focus on ensuring no delays in the agreed timeline. Sources told ProPakistani the process of preparing proposals for the fourth phase of rightsizing has begun. It is expected that the proposals for this phase will be finalized by next week. Five ministries and divisions have been included in this phase, which specifically targets the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Communications, and the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation. Additionally, the Petroleum Division and Revenue Division have also been selected for rightsizing under the fourth phase. Sources indicate that the government has already started initial work on the fifth phase of rightsizing, with five more ministries and divisions identified for this purpose. In the fifth phase, the Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Privatization, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs are among those listed. The Establishment Division and the Cabinet Division have also been marked for rightsizing under this upcoming phase, according to insiders familiar with the development. Sources revealed that the third phase of rightsizing is nearly complete. During the third phase, five ministries and divisions were selected, including the Ministry of Finance and the Power Division, where rightsizing measures have already been implemented. Other ministries affected in this phase were Information, National Heritage and Culture, and Education. So far, a total of 32,070 positions have been abolished under the rightsizing policy, while 7,826 additional posts have been canceled.
