Intelligence Report Accuses Senior LESCO Officials of Corruption
An intelligence agency report submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed corruption allegations against multiple senior officers within the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), according to 24News. Following the report, the Prime Minister instructed the Interior Ministry to initiate action against those involved, with the Establishment Division tasked with monitoring these individuals. The report has implicated officers in grades 18 through 21, detailing misconduct ranging from bribery to mismanagement in electricity distribution. High-ranking officials, including LESCO’s General Manager Technical Amir Yasin and Chief Engineer Material Management Ramzan Butt, were specifically named. The report has accused Butt of engaging in bribery and electricity theft, while DG Implementation Rai Muhammad Asghar faces allegations of falsifying recovery data. Additionally, Deputy Manager Public Relations Rai Masood Kharal, linked closely to LESCO’s chief Shahid Haider, was accused of overbilling. The list also includes Project Director GSC Zahid Qayyum Khokhar, Superintending Engineer Kasur Circle Nadeem Malik, and Manager Eastern Circle Muhammad Anwar Watto, among others. The allegations highlight significant administrative concerns within LESCO, as authorities now move to address widespread reports of corruption among its ranks.
