Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja has reversed billions of rupees in exemptions previously granted to Long Distance International (LDI) companies by the Ministry of IT & Telecom.
At a recent meeting with LDI company representatives and telecom officials, Shaza Fatima expressed deep concern and frustration over the substantial discounts given to these companies. She termed it a big mistake and recalled the full notification.
Sources in the Ministry of IT told ProPakistani that the Ministry of IT has retracted its initial letter offering concessions and is preparing to issue a new directive within the next 24 hours. This directive will mandate that LDI companies pay the full principal amount for the renewal of their licenses, rather than just 50 percent. The minister firmly stated that licenses would not be renewed unless the complete principal amount is paid, emphasizing the need for compliance.
The new policy will also include a provision for LDI companies to pay the maximum amount in installments. The issue of late payments will be resolved in accordance with court decisions.
