The government is set to revive its efforts to privatize the cash-strapped Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Sources told ProPakistani that the Privatization Commission will invite expression of interest for the privatization of the national flag carrier by the end of the month.
According to sources, the 18 percent general sales tax (GST) on purchase of new aircraft has also been removed which was a major concern of potential investors.
Last month, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) gave its nod to grant sales tax exemptions and remove equity losses as part of PIA’ privatization.
PIA’s privatization has remained in jeopardy ever since a real estate developer in October 2024 bid just Rs. 10 billion for a 60 percent stake, a bid that was rejected by the government.
