Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Rashid Mahmood Langrial has ruled out any further extensions in the return filing deadline and warned that a large-scale crackdown against non-filers will commence next month.
Langrial said this while talking to media persons on Wednesday. He revealed that the regulator has collected comprehensive data on individuals who have not filed their returns. He said FBR has received a directive from the Prime Minister not to show leniency towards tax evaders.
FBR chairman further revealed that the number of income tax returns has crossed 4 million, doubling from last year. He emphasized that there will be no extension to the income tax return filing deadline and compared to last month, the last date remains unchanged this time.
It bears mentioning that in September, FBR announced an extension at the 11th hour after countless times communicating that there would be no extension.
14th October 2024 is the last date for filing of income tax returns.
