Ministers Get Up to 188% Increase in Their Salaries
President Asif Ali Zardari raised the monthly salaries of federal ministers and ministers of state to Rs. 519,000. These members of the cabinet now earn as much as Members of the National Assembly (MNAs).
Previously, federal ministers earned Rs. 200,000 and ministers of state received Rs. 180,000 per month. Their salaries now equal those of MNAs, who had their compensation increased from Rs. 180,000 to Rs. 519,000 by the NA Finance Committee a few weeks ago.
The salary hike comes shortly after the federal cabinet’s size doubled on February 27. The cabinet now comprises 30 federal ministers, nine ministers of state, and four advisers.
Zardari also promulgated an ordinance establishing the National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) to enforce sanitary and phytosanitary standards in trade. The Tax Laws (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, was also passed to expedite the recovery of tax amounts stuck in litigation.
