Ministers representing the federal government have spoken against the tax imposed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the regulator’s ‘unjust’ tax on mobile phones.
Member of National Assembly (MNA) Syed Ali Qasim Gilani on X thanked the Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani and Chairman Senate Finance Committee for their support against the PTA tax.
“I thank the IT Minister Shaza Fatima, Minister of State for Finance Bilal A Kayani and Chairman Senate Finance Committee Saleem Mandviwala for their support against the unjust and unreasonable PTA Tax,” he posted.
“Glad to learn from the Minister in charge of PTA that even PTA opposes this excessive tax on mobile phones,” he added.
Qasim first took to X last week urging the Standing Committee on Finance to review taxes on mobile phones.
He also warned that the current regime is restricting digital access for millions of Pakistanis and slowing the country’s technological progress.
