NEPRA Starts Legal Proceedings Against Three IPPs Over Electricity Restoration Delays
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has started legal proceedings against three independent power producers (IPPs) by issuing them show-cause notices.  According to a report in Dawn, the IPPs have been served notices for their failure to restore electricity supply to the national grid after a countrywide breakdown at the start of last year.  The notices have been served after thorough investigations into the plants that include the 1,320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Project, 450 MW Rousch Power Plant in Khanewal, and 134 MW Saba Power Project. All three plants failed to synchronize their generating units with the national grid within the contractual timelines.  The report said that the sponsors of these projects were provided an opportunity to file explanations which were cross-examined.   Based on the findings of the investigation committee, the power regulator decided to formally hold the power plants accountable through show-cause notices for the imposition of penalties.
