Pak Suzuki Shuts Down Plant as Imported CKD Kits Remain Stuck at Port
Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited has shut down its plant due to government’s refusal to release completely knocked down (CKD) kits lying at the port, the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs informed ProPakistani earlier today. The company’s CKD kits have been lying at the port for the last 45 days and due to this, Pak Suzuki is not only paying millions of rupees in detention and demurrage charges but also the government is not receiving any taxes and duties due to no production and sales. The automakers official said the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) and the entire industry have requested the government to follow Auto Policy 21-26 otherwise new investors will not come and existing foreign direct investors (Auto Manufacturers) will remain in critical situation. Several local parts manufacturers have already laid off thousands of employees due to no production at the plant, he added.
