Pakistan Has Imported Only Life-Saving Medicines From India Since 2019 Trade Ban

Pakistan has imported only life-saving medicines from India since the August 2019 trade ban, according to official documents seen by ProPakistani. During the financial year 2023-24, Pakistan imported goods worth $278 million from India but its exports remained at zero dollars for the fourth consecutive year. In FY22, Pakistan’s imports clocked in at $352 million but decreased significantly to $27.6 million in FY23. Before both countries suspended bilateral trade in August 2019, Pakistan had maintained an average annual export of $300 million to India from FY13 to FY19, while imports stood at $1.5 billion. The official trade between the two countries has been suspended since August 2019. The suspension came after as a reaction to India’s decision to revoke Article 370 of its constitution that granted occupied Kashmir a special status. Pakistan had also suspended the appointment of a Trade and Investment Officer (TIO) at its Trade Mission in India.
