The total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 10.6 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in October 2024 as compared to the same month last year.
According to the monthly data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the debt stock increased to Rs. 69.114 trillion in October 2024 as compared to Rs. 62.483 trillion in October 2023.
On a month-on-month basis, the total public debt stock of the federal government fell by 0.7 percent pr Rs. 456 billion from Rs. 69.570 trillion recorded in September 2024.
The data shows that the domestic debt of the central government increased by 16.9 percent from Rs. 40.41 trillion in October 2023 to Rs. 47.23 trillion in October 2024 while going down 0.6 percent over the previous month.
Out of total domestic debt, the long-term public debt increased from Rs. 31.293 trillion to Rs. 36.974 trillion and the stock of short-term debt increased from Rs. 8.988 trillion to Rs. 10.181 trillion during the last year.
