Employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have officially entered the race to acquire the national carrier, submitting a joint bid just ahead of the June 19 deadline for expressions of interest, the Privatization Commission confirmed on Monday.
The proposal was jointly filed by Hidayatullah Khan, president of the CBA-affiliated People’s Unity, and Aqeel Siddiqui, head of the PIA Senior Staff Association.
The employee groups emphasized their right to be prioritized in the acquisition process, especially as the federal government moves to privatize the airline after a previous attempt was unsuccessful.
Yesterday, Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC), a leading player in Pakistan’s fertilizer sector, also submitted an Expression of Interest and prequalification documents to the Privatization Commission, confirming its intent to acquire a stake in Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL).
