Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the Power Division to immediately suspend and take action against officers of electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) who intentionally add extra units to consumer bills, especially the protected class who consume less than 200 units.
Shehbaz in a meeting on Saturday instructed the Power Division to suspend these officers and to report them to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
During a high-level meeting on power sector reforms and solarization, Shehbaz stressed the urgency of transitioning to renewable energy sources. He lamented that Pakistan can no longer afford to generate electricity from imported fuels.
He also called for the immediate shutdown of inefficient government-run factories reliant on expensive imported fuel.
The premier briefly pointed out Pakistan’s vast potential for solar energy generation and urged authorities to take full advantage.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Sardar Owais Khan Leghari, Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State Ali Pervez Malik, and other senior officials.
