PM Forms Committee to Promote Local Manufacturing of EVs in Pakistan

The Prime Minister has formed a policy committee to promote local manufacture and early adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) including New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in the interest of a sustainable transport system in Pakistan. The steering committee will also work to promote energy efficiency and transition to cleaner technologies in the automotive sector. The committee will comprise the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, the Federal Minister for Power, Federal Minister for Petroleum, the Coordinator to the PM for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, the Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Chairman Pakistan Banks Association, and any other coopted member. The specific terms of reference of the committee shall be as under: The Steering Committee shall regularly update the Prime Minister on the above aspects. Ministry of Industries and Production to notify the steering committee, organize periodic meetings for information of the PM and provide secretarial support. The committee shall submit its final recommendations to the PM by the end of November.
