Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed a common currency for members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
In his address at the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government meeting, he pitched for converting the SCO model into an Interbank Union with the help of a unified currency to facilitate smoother economic transactions.
The PM said the common currency and other economic measures were crucial for ensuring peace, stability, and socio-economic development in the region.
The prime minister also expressed his government’s support for the development of alternative funding mechanisms to promote sustainable growth. He further called for reforms within the SCO to address regional development issues.
Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to creating a counter-terrorism structure within the SCO to ensure security and stability among member countries.
