Science Ministry Eliminates Over 200 Jobs At 2 Key Departments
The Ministry of Science and Technology has eliminated 201 posts from two of its key departments under the federal government’s rightsizing plan.
The move affects the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and the National Metrology Institute of Pakistan (NMIP), with formal notifications issued to implement the decision.
A total of 174 posts have been abolished at PSQCA, including 61 terminated immediately and 113 declared as dying cadre, which will be phased out upon retirement or death of current employees. The removed posts span across various grades, from top-level Director positions (Grade-19) to technical and clerical staff at Grade-1. The restructuring includes 4 Grade-19, 31 Grade-18, 36 Grade-17, and 10 Grade-14 positions.
At NMIP, 27 positions have been cut, of which 11 have been eliminated instantly, while 16 have been marked as dying cadre. Among the abolished posts are three Grade-18, five Grade-17, and others ranging from Grade-5 to Grade-15. The decision aims to streamline operations and reduce redundancy in the department’s staffing structure.
The rightsizing plan follows the federal cabinet’s directive to reduce 60 percent of vacant posts across ministries and divisions. The Ministry of Science and Technology has acted in line with these instructions by identifying non-essential positions and officially notifying of their abolishment.
