Scottish Company Secures £53 Million Deal to Supply Mining Equipment to Reko Diq
Glasgow-based mining technology company Weir Group has inked a £53 million deal to supply mining equipment (grinding, separation, and tailings solutions) for the Reko Diq copper-gold project in Pakistan. This contract follows a recent agreement where Chinoy Engineering & Construction (Private) Limited secured a contract to construct a Permanent Accommodation Camp at the Reko Diq mine. Weir Group CEO Jon Stanton said the contract reflects the industry’s recognition of the company’s sustainable and cost-effective solutions, particularly its HPGR technology for the water-scarce conditions and geology of the Reko Diq copper-gold project. Barrick President and CEO Mark Bristow expressed satisfaction with the partnership and said it would enhance Barrick’s copper and gold portfolios while benefiting stakeholders in Pakistan and Balochistan. Reko Diq is one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold projects and is jointly owned by Barrick Gold (50 percent), three federal state-owned enterprises (25 percent), the Province of Balochistan (15 percent on a fully funded basis), and the Province of Balochistan (10 percent on a free carried basis).
