The Senate Standing Committee on Power has ordered the Power Division to submit all details on contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The committee on Friday sought a thorough examination of various aspects of IPP operations and contracts to understand where the money goes and how it is spent.
The committee has asked for a cost comparison of IPP plants established since 1992 with similar facilities in neighboring countries. It further sought detailed records of capacity payments made to IPPs over the past 20 years, along with explanations for these payments. Information on the sponsors of all private-sector power plants is also requested.
The panel has made its intentions clear that it also wants to know everything about the production and construction costs for wind power plants installed in the last six years. Participants have asked for details of existing contracts with IPPs, including any modifications made over time, and their current production capacity and standby capacity. The committee also wants to compare the performance metrics of IPPs with global standards.
Specific data on gas and furnace oil-fired plants with capacities exceeding 50 MW, established in 1992, has also been requested. The Secretary Power Division has been instructed to provide all relevant information within 2-3 weeks.
