TPL Properties Confirms Fire Naturally Dies Off At Gas Pocket in Karachi

TPL Properties (PSX: TPLP) has confirmed that the gas fire at Korangi Creek, which reignited on March 28, 2025, has once again extinguished naturally as of late last night. This marks the second self-extinguishment in just ten days, consistent with expert projections that the flare-up would subside within 2–3 weeks. In a stock filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday, the company stated that the fire’s gradual decline in intensity and eventual extinguishment is likely due to it originating from a small, isolated gas pocket. TPL added that both the company and the expert committee are continuing to monitor the area for any signs of residual gas leakage. The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) had formed a Technical Committee on April 8, 2025, to evaluate the situation. The committee engaged US-based firm Cudd Well Control for a technical assessment and containment strategy. The next steps will be guided by ongoing evaluations conducted by the government-appointed committee. TPL expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan, the Technical Committee—led by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), and Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL)—as well as the Mayor of Karachi and local authorities for their support during the incident.
