The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Department of Municipal Administration MCI launched an operation to remove encroachments in Abpara Market on Wednesday.
The operation, led by Department of Municipal Administration Assistant Director Abdul Ghaffor, aimed to reclaim public spaces and restore order in the bustling marketplace.
However, the operation was met with fierce resistance from staff at Quetta Hotel, located within the market. Eyewitnesses reported that hotel employees resorted to violence, injuring two Department of Municipal Administration officials and assaulting duty magistrates. Despite the presence of police personnel, the hotel staff allegedly continued to resist.
CDA officials have vowed to take stern action against Quetta Hotel management and staff for interfering with the operation. “Encroachments will not be tolerated, and we will ensure that public spaces are protected,” said a senior CDA official.
According to DMA, the operation will resume in the coming days after securing full assistance from the district administration. Authorities are committed to completing the operation to reclaim public spaces and maintain law and order in the market.
