The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has relieved more than 500 security guards of duties as the organization explores options for restructuring.
Sources told ProPakistani, that USC has ended its agreement with a private firm for the provision of more than 500 security guards. Sources said that the step would result in savings to the tune of billions of rupees.
Moreover, USC has also decided to relieve loaders and packing labor with the organization opting to get the same tasks done by daily wage employees.
USC officials said that that the corporation aims to protect permanent employees, contract employees and daily wage workers.
Last month, it was reported that the federal government has decided to shut down Utility Stores. However, as the corporation’s employees undertook protests, the government backtracked and said that no such plan is under consideration.
Earlier this week, Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain also clarified that there are no plans under consideration to shut down the Utility Stores.
The minister said that that various options for the restructuring of the Utility Stores Corporation are being explored.
