Weekly Inflation Comes in at 27-Month Low of 15.34%
The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation for the week ended August 29, 2024, depicted an increase of 15.34 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). According to brokerage house Topline Securities, the year-on-year trend is the lowest after 27 months. On a week-on-week basis, SPI decreased by 0.62 percent due to a decline in the prices of tomatoes (8.03 percent), onions (6.53 percent), pulse gram (2.20 percent), garlic (1.76 percent), potatoes (0.63 percent), eggs (0.55 percent), LPG (0.51 percent), gur (0.41 percent), rice basmati broken (0.27 percent), tea prepared (0.17 percent), firewood whole 40 kg (0.12 percent), salt powdered (0.07 percent), mutton (0.06 percent) and beef with bone (0.03 percent). Items prices of which decreased during the period under review include chicken (3.02 percent), bananas (2.35 percent), chilies powder national 200 gm packet each (1.42 percent), wheat flour bag 20 kg (0.85 percent), pulse masoor (0.68 percent), bread plain (0.56 percent), pulse mash (0.53 percent), sugar (0.49 percent), cooking oil dalda or other similar brand (sn), 5 litre tin each (0.34 percent0 and pulse moong (0.05 percent). During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 17 (33.33 percent) items increased, 10 (19.61 percent) items decreased and 24 (47.06 percent) items remained stable.
